Week 8


Today in class we talked and learned about Mertin's Strain Theory in relation to the structural-functional theory. The structural-functional theory to deviance can be thought as variety according to the norms as it promotes social unity and opens lines of communication. Symbolic interation states the people inheriently become deviant. Soical conflict paradigm states that the norm laws reflect the interest of the rich and powerful. Lastly, the labeling theory is a stigma that the powerful have the resources to resist deviance. Crystal informed us that the labeling theory is is a symbolic-interaction tool to use for the three mind's eye. The majority of the class was spent on relating to criminality and deviance to the sociological perspectives. Chapter 9 quiz is due this coming Thursday.
