Week 5

Today we reviewed chapter three worksheet, some of the sharing in the class revolved around thinking how other cultures are more or less than your own but really it’s not a question of who is better as each culture is different therefore you can not judge or compare. The second pint we talked about in class was the idea of how we can avoid ethnocentrism and culture wars. A very important lesson that we learned today is that sociology is understanding culture and not judging it. We then continued to outline the theoretical analysis of culture from the structural functional theory, manifest function, latent function and dysfunction, second the social conflict theory and lastly the sociobiology of culture.
